Veteran’s Day—Veteran’s Day is a day celebrated Nationally to honor all America’s Veterans. November 11th is the original day of this holiday secured as “Armistice Day” that began after World War 1.
In 1919, President Wilson proclaimed this day a commemoration with following words: “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations..” (department.va.gov).
Since that time, several bills have been put forth and passed until it was decided in 1971, that the day would stay on the same date, November 11th, be called hence forth as Veteran’s Day, and it would be a holiday to be observed throughout the nation.
Today, Veteran’s Day is still observed to honor all the veterans of United States of America. As history proved wars continued throughout the years between World War 1 and the first Armistice Day, but each year, with hope on this day citizens truly wish for peace and good things for those who put their lives on the line for this country.
This day, November 11th, is being observed once again this year. It is celebrated not only to preserve history of the day but to help put the focus on the importance of this day by honoring America’s Veterans.
