Quitman, GA (March 7, 2025)--- At the request of the Quitman Police Department, GBI agents are investigating an aggravated assault in Quitman, GA. On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, a 911 call reported a shotting at Preston Place Apartments in Quitman, Georgia. Agents and a Crime Scene Specialist responded to work the investigation alongside Quitman P.D. investigators. An 18-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds. The 18-year-old remains hospitalized in stable condition. The 22-year-old was treated and released. This case is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the GBI Investigative Office in Thomasville at 229-225-4090. Micheal Kasey Sims (21)

Of Quitman, GA passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Archibald Brooks County Hospital.

 Born to Tracy Owens and Willie Sims on August 27, 2002, at South GA Medical Center. Kasey graduated from GA Cyber Academy in May of 2021 then began working September of 2021, with R.L. Cunningham & Sons in Quitman, GA where he continued for over three years.

He enjoyed life to the fullest with a smile for everyone. Loved to fish, watch GA Bulldogs, hunt, and play baseball. He always took time to enjoy and laugh with family and friends, loved kids, and always joked with everyone.

Kasey follows in passing his two grandfathers Willie James Sims and Calvin Willis Owens. He is survived by two grandmothers, Mildred “Lisa” Owens and Mildred Gloster, his mother Tracy Renee Owens, his father Willie Lee Sims, siblings, Destine’ (Shon) Robinson, Devin Sims, Willie “Man” Sims, Jr., Haley Sims, and Nicholas Sims. Aunts Kamesha Sims, Mable Sims, Mary Sims, Tracey Sims, and Charlotte Player. Uncles, Travis Owens, and William (Carmen) Owens, several cousins, and countless friends.

A viewing will be held at BTW (Blankumsee, Thomas & Wright) Funeral Home, Friday, February 16th from 6 to 8 p.m. Flowers can be sent to this funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at Morrison Baptist Church located at 13527 Moultrie Highway, Barney, GA at 2 p.m. Honorary pallbearers are Devin Sims, Alex Munoz, Tripp Faucett, Israel Torress, Dylan Marshall, and Jakson Perry. The Funeral Reception will be held back at the Owens resident unless it is raining and then will be held at First Baptist Church Reception room.
