Brooks County---Local citizens from Gulf coast to the North Florida Mountains and everywhere in between are watching Hurricane Helene. Now at s Category 2, Helene is steady moving North and just began shifting slightly more NE putting it straight at Brooks County, GA.
Governor Kemp issued a State of Emergency for Georgia counties and has warned this hurricane is going to more catastrophic to Southern Georgia and further north than anything GA has seen this year. Governor Desantis of Florida also issued a State of Emergency for 61 counties.
This storm is going to cause some major issues in the counties it hits on its path. These include wide range outages, downed trees, downed electrical wires, and more. Officials are urging residents to stay in place just after the hurricane so that crews can begin cleaning up the wreckage and begin fixing electrical wires.
Brooks County residents should be aware the hurricane will be heading directly toward the county and expect high winds and a lot of rain throughout tonight (September 26, 2024).

Quitman Church of God will open at 11 a.m. and will have space for 100 people.
Morven Baptist Church will open at 4 p.m. and will allow pets with crates.
