Cairo, Georgia—On January 28, 2023, Master Patrol Officer Clarence Williams, known to many as CJ, passed away while on duty working with the City of Cairo Police Department.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page (2023), “Officer Williams was assisting a Grady County Sheriff’s Deputy during a traffic stop in the area of 10th Street and Robinson Avenue. The subject fled the vehicle and the officers pursued him. During the chase, Officer Williams collapsed and was unable to be revived.”
Officer Williams served with the City of Cairo Police Department since 2020. According to the City of Cairo Police Department Facebook page, Williams was quick to gain the respect and love of all who met him.
Officer Williams was a resident of Cairo, having grown up there. Several family, friends, local residents, and colleagues have commented on the Facebook page telling Officer Williams to “Rest in Peace”.
Several in the community and surrounding areas have offered condolences and prayers for the family of Officer Williams. Local law enforcement districts have also sent their prayers with a prayer for Office Williams to “Rest Easy”.
Officer Clarence Williams became the first officer in the State of Georgia to pass in line of duty in 2023.
