Brooks County—If you are traveling in or on Ga State Road 122 then be aware that road is now closed in a partial section of north Brooks County. The State DOT (Department of Transportation) has issued several notices to the community and all through social media accounts stating the road closure for several months.
According to the GA DOT (2023) State Road 122 shall be closed for bridge repair beginning April 10, 2023. With weather permitting, the road will be closed approximately 450 days while the bridges over Brice Pond Tributary and Okapilco Creek are being repaired. The approximate date of those 450 days is July 3, 2024.
These two bridges are located west of Pavo, GA, past Sandhill Store, and east of S.R. 122 and S.R. 333 junction. Motorists are cautioned and urged to find detour routes if possible and those residents living close to this area take caution as well of the equipment being hauled in and out.
A detour for motorists has also been given urging motorists to “take S.R. 33 north to S.R 319 east to S.R. 133 and head south to S.R. 122. Motorist can also take S.R. 33 to S.R. 84 then to S.R. 133 and north to S. R. 122.” An Advisory has also been issued cautioning motorists to expect delays, to exercise caution and to reduce their speed when traveling around these work zones.
