Easter Weekend a Blessing

Easter Weekend a Blessing

Amanda Manning • April 12, 2023

Brooks County—This past weekend many throughout Brooks County, Georgia celebrated Easter with family, friends, and in church. Local churches and cities hosted several spring festivities as well as community Easter egg hunts.

Pavo Hardware celebrated by hosting a night Easter egg hunt at the Pavo Community Center the weekend before, April 1, 2023 and had food vendors for supper. Kids from the community as well as surrounding areas all attended, making this year’s night Easter Egg Hunt a successful turnout once again for the second year. Pavo Hardware wants to thank all who help sponsor this event with their donations and time.

Boston, Ga held their 33rd Annual Spring Fling and Auction with their Community Easter Egg hunt on April 8, 2023. Several residents and community members as well as those from surrounding communities swarmed to this event despite the rather cold windy and rainy weather. Boston’s vendors included several food vendors, local firefighters’ charity BBQ, real estate agents, toy makers, Thomasville Humane Society with two cute puppies for adoption, and not to leave out the children an animal petting area. Children ran to pet the two rabbits, baby goats and chicken. Children gathered around two areas for their egg hunt and many happy smiles as eggs were found and gathered. The Easter bunny even made a few appearances to take pictures with the little ones.

Barwick, Ga community also hosted an Easter Egg hunt in the park and served all the children hotdogs, chips and drinks. Children ranging from 1 to 5 took off to gather the abundance of eggs lying on the ground and squealed with laughter as they found goodies inside. Older children took off in another direction in the park just as happy and gleeful to find their eggs and their prizes inside.

Churches throughout Brooks County held an Easter Egg hunt for the children as well. Many churches held their own and the weekend prior to this past Easter weekend.

As Easter Sunday rolled around, families gathered in their church to celebrate. Families also gathered together to celebrate with egg hunting, prayers, and good food.

Families shared their joy of the day throughout various social media as well. Easter for many may have been slightly cold here in the South but for those who celebrated it, that day meant hope.

Hope all had a wonderful and happy Easter in 2023.

COLQUITT CO – The GBI is investigating a use-of-force incident death involving a Trooper and a 44-year-old Pavo man. On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Trooper was patrolling in Colquitt County, Georgia near State Road 33 and Lanier Road. While in the area, the trooper noticed Kennedy driving a blue 4-wheeler on SR33. The Trooper was aware of recent thefts and burglaries in the area involving a blue 4-wheeler. The Trooper followed Kennedy and attempted to pull him over using the emergency lights on his patrol car. Kennedy did not stop and drove away on the 4-wheeler. The Trooper chased him through several fields, a ditch, and back to the highway. While driving through another field during the chase, Kennedy turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper’s patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to overturn. Kennedy then ran away. The Trooper and a GSP K-9 chased Kennedy, and the K-9 caught up to and bit Kennedy to stop him. The Trooper handcuffed Kennedy and noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite. EMS and local deputies who responded to assist gave Kennedy medical treatment on the scene. Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon for treatment for his injuries. He later died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 27th in the early afternoon. Kennedy will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be provided to Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brad Shealy for review
