Brooks County, GA—The U.S. National Weather service issued a flood warning on February 11, 2023, for the Brooks County, GA area. Heavy rains, extensive amounts of rain, and possible thunderstorms were tracked to hit the area and it did.
February 11, 2023 proved to be a rather soggy weekend for Brooks County residents. The system that passed through brought a measurement of three to five areas throughout the county. Several areas are now showing the results of such a huge amount of rain.
Washed out dirt roads, trees covering dirt roads and more trees have fallen in yards all due to the excessive amount of rain and soggy soil. Fields throughout the county have standing water while ditches have damage from running water from those fields.
Wash outs, runoffs, and holes can be found on various dirt roads while some ditches are still holding water along paved roads. Further evidence can be found from the spill ways of ponds that are running like waterfalls.
Brooks County Road Department signs are still scattered at various roads with excessive damages so citizens be warned. Several dirt roads have washed out in various parts of the road causing huge holes, water ways and bumpy conditions.
Further to the East of Brooks County and South saw further damage from wind, lightning and more soaking. Some thunderstorm warnings were issued for Florida but not for Georgia. Local residents in those areas calculated more than five inches in spots from Thursday to Saturday.
As the rain moved out and the water damage could be seen, many residents simply began to clean up despite the cold weather that moved in afterwards.
There are still a lot of damaged roads in Brooks County so, citizens be cautious when driving especially on the local dirt roads.
