If you were around the Pavo, Georgia area on May 13, 2023, then you most likely heard music, people, and possibly some sirens, all thanks to the 36th Annual Pavo Peacock Festival & Parade. This year’s event held another astounding number of vendors along with live music, food choices of many different kinds, and of course the parade with the famous peacocks riding in it.
Although inclement weather came just a day before, the day of the event was a clear, hot and yes humid day, but it didn’t stop folks from coming out to have some fun, shop for the upcoming Mother’s Day gift, or try to win the lovely Peacock Quilt that was being given as a winning gift to whosever’s name was drawn. People strolled through the area stopping here and there for the vendors with eye catching jewelry, crafts, food, and services being offered. Others lined up for the food at the many vendors, while kids hung out to jump on the many bounce houses offered, or get their faces painted. Along the back area at the field where eight teams were going head-to-head in a softball tournament, spectators watched.
This year’s event gave visitors a great line up for entertainment including the Hahira Cloggers, the Morgan Collins Band, and a wonderful range of genre music for everyone.
The parade did not disappoint the many spectators ither. The Pavo Reapers (softball team) won first place in the Business Category, the Thomas County Central High School Band placed first place in the school category, Miss Boston Pageant Float won first place in the Club or Organization category, Salem Baptist Church won first place in the Church category, and the Grand Marshall of this year’s Pavo Peacock Day Festival, Amari Pettis, rode through waving, while the peacocks greeted everyone with some of their antics through the parade.
This year’s Quilt of Valor was awarded to Billy Owens, along with a Thank you for your Service from all. The wonderfully colorful and hand stitched quilt drawing winner for this year was Carol Palmer. Pavo Quilters wanted to thank all who took part in making this year’s drawing a great success.
Christy North, director for the tournament, announced the winner of this year’s Peacock Invitational Softball Tournament was GTG. All who played enjoyed the day’s events as well, and each had their own sense of humor playing in tutus for fun. Be sure to check out the pictures.
With laughs, cheers, smiles, and pure joy, this year’s event was another great success for the Pavo Civic Club. All of the staff who worked at this year’s Peacock Festival would like to send a huge thank you to all the volunteers, vendors, parade entries, and visitors.
Be sure to mark your calendar for this event in the coming year of 2024. The Peacock Festival & Parade is held every year on the second weekend of May.
