Severe Winter Storm Across the United States Causing Major Concerns

Blue Ridge Mountains Winter Snow

Across the United States through every state including Georgia, a winter storm has caused major concerns and damages. Sub zero temperatures have caused pipes to burst, roads to ice, and wells to freeze up in South Georgia throughout the Christmas holiday.

However, further north reports of snow fall were recorded around the northern area of Georgia, and it has also caused havoc for Atlanta’s Airport. There are currently departure delays, general arriving delays but just two days ago during the Christmas holiday more than 11,000 flights were cancelled or delayed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The airport also had to deal with bursting pipes in the airport causing bathrooms and restaurants to shut down.

Further north on the east coast states two to four feet of snow has fallen while other areas nearly five to six feet of snow has fallen. Power outages, loss of heat, travel bans in vehicles, planes and trains caused more pressure on people. Wind gusts topped with snow fall caused frozen pipes to burst and freeze again.

Social media platforms like Twitter, Tik Tok, Facebook, and Instagram have been the life saviors of many who have been cut off from family and friends. Reports out of Buffalo, New York are not all good. One resident on Tik Tok Kim_Marie09 shared a video portraying pictures of the area where she is now around Buffalo, New York. In her post she shared, “Buffalo is not okay. People are being found dead every hour in their cars, on the streets and in their homes. So many have gone days without heat or power in subzero temps. Water main lines are bursting, homes and apartments buildings damaged, draining city water, fire hydrants are empty while houses are burning. People are looting every store, breaking windows of many small businesses and taking everything. Neighbors are opening their doors to help strangers. Open businesses are providing food and shelter, women are having babies in their home with no heat, hospital workers are on their 6th straight shift waiting for relief. People begging for food and warmth, many offering help only to get robbed. Linemen risking their lives to restore power; police, fire, emts, rescue are working around the clock to save lives. Animals built for this weather are being found dead. This will go down as the worst storm in history to hit Buffalo, NY. My heart hurts so bad but despite all of this I see a community coming together to help anyway they can. It really does take a village. Praying for the people of Buffalo, NY and surrounding areas. I am thankful we have survived this, RIP to those who did not make it through the blizzard.”

Out west across the plains and onward towards the Pacific there are several inches of snow, severe wind gusts causing snow from the ground to whip up. Blizzard conditions further causing roadways to shutdown, flights to be cancelled, and whiteout conditions. Zero visibility from these blizzards around areas of Minnesota, Northern Iowa, Wisconsin, Montana and Nebraska. Northern California seeing heavy amounts of snowfall causing power outages and loss of heat with bursting pipes and falling trees.

Further south and to the west tornadoes were spawned by this massive winter storm. Massive Snowfall in higher regions as well as torn up buildings, power outages and further damage of pipes and water systems.

The major winter storm is now releasing its grip on many states, but further systems are bringing rain and more snow from the Pacific regions. More rain is expected to come further East and temperatures are expected to rise further.

For all who have been affected BC News and Stories are praying for all.

COLQUITT CO – The GBI is investigating a use-of-force incident death involving a Trooper and a 44-year-old Pavo man. On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Trooper was patrolling in Colquitt County, Georgia near State Road 33 and Lanier Road. While in the area, the trooper noticed Kennedy driving a blue 4-wheeler on SR33. The Trooper was aware of recent thefts and burglaries in the area involving a blue 4-wheeler. The Trooper followed Kennedy and attempted to pull him over using the emergency lights on his patrol car. Kennedy did not stop and drove away on the 4-wheeler. The Trooper chased him through several fields, a ditch, and back to the highway. While driving through another field during the chase, Kennedy turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper’s patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to overturn. Kennedy then ran away. The Trooper and a GSP K-9 chased Kennedy, and the K-9 caught up to and bit Kennedy to stop him. The Trooper handcuffed Kennedy and noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite. EMS and local deputies who responded to assist gave Kennedy medical treatment on the scene. Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon for treatment for his injuries. He later died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 27th in the early afternoon. Kennedy will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be provided to Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brad Shealy for review
