School nurse, teacher charged with sex crimes

Mar. 9—VALDOSTA — Two Brooks County Schools employees were among three people arrested recently over child sexual abuse material, officials said.

On Feb. 20, during an unrelated investigation, Lowndes County Sheriff's Office personnel were reviewing a cell phone download and noticed images and videos containing child sexual abuse material, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.


Victims were identified and contacted; investigators found similar material with GPS coordinates, user information and other data attached, the statement said.


On March 3, arrest warrants were served on a Lowndes County man and two women from Brooks County for violations of a state ordinance on sexual exploitation of children, the sheriff's office said.


The two Brooks County women were identified by the sheriff's office as a nurse and a paraprofessional/teacher, both employed by the Brooks County Board of Education.


The two women are out on bond, while the man is being held without bond in the Lowndes County Jail, according to jail records.

The Brooks County school system had not returned calls seeking comment before press deadlines.


The investigation is ongoing and being conducted in cooperation with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, the Department of Homeland Security, the United States Secret Service, the Brooks County Board of Education Police Department and the Brooks County Sheriff's Office, authorities said.

GBI investigates use-of-force incident death of a Pavo man

COLQUITT CO – The GBI is investigating a use-of-force incident death involving a Trooper and a 44-year-old Pavo man.  On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Trooper was patrolling in Colquitt County, Georgia near State Road 33 and Lanier Road. While in the area, the trooper noticed Kennedy driving a blue 4-wheeler on SR33. The Trooper was aware of recent thefts and burglaries in the area involving a blue 4-wheeler. The Trooper followed Kennedy and attempted to pull him over using the emergency lights on his patrol car. Kennedy did not stop and drove away on the 4-wheeler. The Trooper chased him through several fields, a ditch, and back to the highway. While driving through another field during the chase, Kennedy turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper’s patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to overturn. Kennedy then ran away. The Trooper and a GSP K-9 chased Kennedy, and the K-9 caught up to and bit Kennedy to stop him. The Trooper handcuffed Kennedy and noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite. EMS and local deputies who responded to assist gave Kennedy medical treatment on the scene. Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon for treatment for his injuries. He later died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 27th in the early afternoon. Kennedy will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be provided to Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brad Shealy for review

Quitman, GA (December 2, 2024) - The GBI has arrested and charged Wilbert Mobley, Jr., age 44, of Quitman, GA, with 2 counts of Malice Murder, 2 counts of Felony Murder, 3 counts of Aggravated Assault, and 3 counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime in connection to the deaths of Tamiko Mobley, age 48, of Quitman, GA, and Tiaja Mobley, age 25, of Quitman, GA. On Friday, November 29, 2024, at about 9:40 a.m., the GBI was requested by the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a double homicide that took place on Shiver Lane in Quitman, GA. Deputies initially responded and found two women, a mother and daughter later identified as Tamiko and Tiaja Mobley, had been shot inside the home. Tamiko Mobley did not live at the home but was staying with her daughter after an argument with her husband, Wilbert Mobley, Jr., the night before. Investigators found a man who had also been shot at and hit by debris during the incident. He sustained non-fatal injuries. Both victims will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office where autopsies will be performed. Quitman Police Department Officers who were assisting Brooks County deputies in responding to the 911 call arrested Wilbert Mobley, Jr. outside the home. Mobley was booked into the Brooks County Jail. This case is active and ongoing.
