Morven, GA—On February 21, 2023 the City of Morven held their regular City Council Meeting in the Heritage Room located at City Hall (the old school building). In attendance were Mayor Pro-Tem Ann Guess, Council Members Billy Smith, Octavia Miller, Alan Nelson, and Danny Johnson. City Clerk Sandy Yates, Chief of Police Lynwood Yates, and citizens of the city of Morven. Mayor Anita Hill was not present for the meeting.
Concerns were announced in regard to the city’s water issues earlier in the month. Chief Yates announced that the problem had been fixed and there should not be any more issues with the water. Lighting on several streets was also in the works with bidding to have them install new lighting. An excessive number of cats were also addressed. Thomasville Human Society had not returned the city calls, and Chief Yates asked citizens to capture them in traps so that the department could help move them. Further research is needed to find a place to help catch them. Quitman Paw and Play do not help with cats.
Morven city council also discussed the progress being made in the building of a fire station crew in the city. The Brooks County fire department will no longer cover Morven in the event of a fire come June 2023. That is still being worked on with great progress. Further information on this would be shared as it comes in and more information would be shared by the mayor at the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m. Their next meeting for the city council will be held on March 21, 2023 at 6 p.m. If you would like to get on the agenda or need to find out more information you may contact the City Clerk at (229) 775-2176.
