QUITMAN, Ga. (March 1, 2022) — Online learning and career development are now available to kids and teens at the Brooks County Boys & Girls Club thanks to a collaboration between high-speed internet provider Kinetic and nonprofit electric membership cooperative Colquitt Electric Membership Corp.
“We’re very grateful to Kinetic and Colquitt EMC for providing high-speed broadband so we can now offer free virtual learning platforms for kids and teens,” said Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta marketing and development Vice President Kristin Wooley Hanna. The Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta runs the Brooks County Boys & Girls Club.
“Kids of all ages at the club now have a safe and inclusive environment where they can tune in to live and on-demand classes that spark hobbies and ideas,” Hanna said. “They can build their skill sets, create content and earn recognition for their work as they develop digital literacy that supports their academic and career success.”
“Because of Kinetic and Colquitt EMC’s generous support and work, we can now offer opportunities to young people that we wouldn’t otherwise have been able to provide,” she added. “The benefits of these companies’ efforts will impact the community for generations.”
Kinetic’s ultrafast fiber-optic broadband lets users at the Boys & Girls Club and at homes and businesses upload and download at up to 1 gigabit a second, or 1,000 megabits a second, providing what is known as “next-generation access.”
“We couldn’t be happier to bring our best internet experience to the Brooks County Boys & Girls Club,” said Kinetic Georgia operations President Michael Foor. “The club’s learning and career development programs provided safe, fun online learning platforms for young people to socialize, test their abilities and build critical skills.”
Foor added that when he told Colquitt EMC President and Chief Executive Officer Danny Nichols about the club’s challenges and needs, Nichols immediately agreed to team up with Kinetic.
“We are very grateful for the collaboration with a leader like Colquitt EMC,” Foor said.
Kinetic and Colquitt EMC have been working together since 2020 to expand Kinetic’s fiber broadband service to members of the electric cooperative.
Kinetic has separately invested more than $500 million in Georgia since 2019 to upgrade internet services and bring affordable gig-speed fiber internet to homes and businesses.
