Pavo Haunted House Running Once Again

Pavo Haunted House Running Once Again

A Haunting House you Don't want to miss coming to.

One of the best-known attractions in and around Brooks County, Georgia is the Pavo Haunted House. Pavo Haunted House began in 2005 with a small staff and a will to make it fun and haunting for those who enjoyed haunted houses around the area during Halloween. As Pavo Haunted grew, it became a business for the Pavo Community several years later.

Owner, Sallie Burgess has always loved to watch Halloween movies and one of the scariest for her as a teenager was the 1984 movie titled A Nightmare on Elm Street. For Sallie Freddy Krueger was one of the scariest characters.

Sallie has always enjoyed Halloween from the time she knew what it was. Her first haunted house visits were in the neighborhoods where she and her husband, Jerome, grew up. Her neighbors had one and she was hooked from the first time she entered. As teenagers living in Orlando, Florida the two took to the streets to hit every haunted house they could find.

As a kid, Sallie loved to play with make-up but not for Halloween. That version of makeup came as she grew older and before long, she turned that passion into creating Halloween characters.

Having those memories is what prompted Sallie to begin the same in South Georgia where her family resides and produced the makings of the Pavo Haunted House. Since its beginning, Sallie has played multiple characters roles, and loves each and every character she has played.

As the Pavo Haunted House has grown, multiple volunteers have come to her in order to participate in the “haunting” characters they portray or create. Sallie now has nearly 80 or so volunteers that help make the Pavo Haunted House a spooky place to visit.

As the years progress, Sallie is not sure if she can grow this much larger because of how small the town of Pavo is and the residents who prefer more quiet weekends, but she hopes that the community and residents will see their name in October and throughout the year in community and surrounding towns will see the good that comes from this haunted house on and off season. Good things like the donations to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, for the last 15 years, and a lot more donations.

If you would like to see how Pavo Haunted House has paid it forward, would like to know the rules regarding visits to the house, directions, or the times and dates they are open be sure to visit their website at http://www.pavohauntedhouse.com/. COLQUITT CO – The GBI is investigating a use-of-force incident death involving a Trooper and a 44-year-old Pavo man. On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Trooper was patrolling in Colquitt County, Georgia near State Road 33 and Lanier Road. While in the area, the trooper noticed Kennedy driving a blue 4-wheeler on SR33. The Trooper was aware of recent thefts and burglaries in the area involving a blue 4-wheeler. The Trooper followed Kennedy and attempted to pull him over using the emergency lights on his patrol car. Kennedy did not stop and drove away on the 4-wheeler. The Trooper chased him through several fields, a ditch, and back to the highway. While driving through another field during the chase, Kennedy turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper’s patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to overturn. Kennedy then ran away. The Trooper and a GSP K-9 chased Kennedy, and the K-9 caught up to and bit Kennedy to stop him. The Trooper handcuffed Kennedy and noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite. EMS and local deputies who responded to assist gave Kennedy medical treatment on the scene. Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon for treatment for his injuries. He later died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 27th in the early afternoon. Kennedy will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be provided to Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brad Shealy for review
