The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) is sponsoring Georgia Cities Week from April 23 - 29, 2023 to showcase and celebrate cities and the many services they provide. The mission of this is to "give cities the opportunity to share information about valuable services they provide to residents, to highlight successful community projects and infrastructure enhancements, connect residents to each other, and to build or improve working relationships between state leaders and legislators", according to gacities.com.
Georgia cities week is on its 24th year and it was also to help celebrate community achievements and recognize volunteers as well as city employees. According to Georgia Cities Week 2023, "Last year, we had more than 160 cities participate, and we received overwhelmingly positive feedback."

Cities that have announced their participation in our area are: Quitman, Hahira, Valdosta, Thomasville, Adel, Moultrie, and several more local cities. Cities around the Brooks County and within the Brooks County area are planning events to help promote this sponsoring from GMA.
Quitman--Quitman is hosting the following: City Clean Up Day from 9 a.m. until beginning at the local Court House Square on Saturday April 22nd. Monday, April 23rd will be the Youth Art Contest where there will be a drawing for submitted art from local youth. Youth may enter their art until the deadline on April 21st at noon. The drawing will be held at Quitman City Hall on April 24th at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 25th, their will be a Public Safety Expo. Touch a Truck event where city vehicles, first responders and various equipment will be moving around the city. Places they will go are QES from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., BCMS @ 10:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. ,Brooks Plaza from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., On Wednesday, April 26th, they are holding a Pastor's Breakfast Bowl at the Event Center from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a Professional Administrative Day from 11:30 a.m. to 1;30 p.m. at the Event Center. Following Wednesday, their will be a Spotlight on Downtown & Pet Adoptions, Thursday the 27th of April. All day sales & networking event from local businesses and pet adoption from the local animal shelter. Friday, April 28th, there will be a City Employee luncheon for city employees only and city movie night featuring the "Buick Special"" made right in Brooks County, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Movies begin at 8:00 p.m. on N. Lee St.
Hahira--Hahira will also be celebrating big with a variety of activates throughout the week. Those activities include "Art in the Park", Capture Hahira Photography Contest Announced, "Coffee with a Cop", Touch a Truck at the Depot, Tree Planting, and Main Street Market. Valdosta City is also participating with a week long string of events. These events include VMS STEM Academy Mock Trial, Utilities Read to W.G. Nunn, Proclamation at Customer Service & First Responders Appreciation Video, Neighborhood Development Tour & Lunch Public Works Essay Contest, Coffee with the Chiefs & GUD Coffee, Painting in the Park (Unity Park), Downtown Valdosta Main street's Annual Pup Crawl.
