MOULTRIE – State Route (SR) 33 in Colquitt County is scheduled to close to non-local traffic for an extended period of time starting Feb. 16.
The SR 33 detour for non-local traffic is expected to remain in place until April 25. Southbound SR 33 traffic will be detoured onto SR 270 West, to SR 133 South and then back to SR 33 South. Northbound SR 33 traffic will be detoured onto SR 133 North, to SR 270 East and then back to SR 33 North.
The road closure is required as part of the widening/reconstruction of SR 133. Four sections of SR 133 are under construction. The section connected to the SR 33 closure and detour runs from south of US 319/SR 35 to Mike Horne Road, a little under 14 miles. Construction on this section started the summer of 2021 and the current scheduled completion date is the spring of 2025. The cost is approximately $89 million, which includes preliminary engineering, right of way acquisition and construction.
