In 2022 EMC (Colquitt Electric Membership Corporation) awarded several applicates awards for their Bright Ideas Grant in October newsletter. Brooks County Schools’ teachers applied, and several were awarded.
In Brooks County, Georgia schools’ teachers awarded were BCMS Carl Parker and Dale Richards, Delta Innovative School Sridevi Dasyam, NBES Amy Giddens and Kayla Toler, QES Diana Chartier, Molly Dukes, and Angie Tillman.
Delta Innovative School announced on social media, September 12th, “Congratulations to Mrs. Dasyam for receiving the Colquitt EMC Bright Ideas Grant! The Grant will be used for the students renewable and non-renewable resource projects. Way to Go Mrs. Dasyam!”
The Bright Ideas Grant purpose “is to provide resources for teachers that will enable them to plan and implement special instructional opportunities to improve student achievement through the implementation of the Georgia Performance Standards,” (colquittemc.com). It is offered to help teachers with their innovative and creative lesson plans. Those awarded received grants up to $1,000 and it was offered to all teacher in public and private schools, grades K-12, in any subject area. Funding for this grant is possible through the Georgia legislation where unclaimed capital credits are used for education in the communities served by EMCs.
This grant is offered yearly, and the next grant will begin April 1, 2023, with applications. Teachers may apply only once per year but several teachers within one school may apply.
