Barney—On October 18, 2022, a wreck occurred off Highway 122 in Barney, Georgia. A semi-truck driver blacked out causing the truck to run right into the old historical building off Highway 122 across Luck & Moody Peach Shed.
According to the official state patrol report Stephen Hobbs, the driver, was slowing down for the upcoming railroad crossing. He then realized he was inside the structure of the old building. No official reason was given for the reason. Hobbs was driving for RHF Hay Products LLC out of Hahira, GA.
Due to the structure’s possible collapse from the damage of the vehicle Brooks County Building Inspector Jason Montesano (229-563-8233) recommended to wait until the next day to determine how to remove the truck from the barn. Due to that recommendation the GA State Patrol turned the truck over to the Brooks County Sheriff Department.
The building is owned by James Edgar Jones. Luckily, crews were able to keep the building from collapsing and get the truck out of the building. However, tape is still surrounding the building.
Hobbs was taken for medical treatment.
More information will be forthcoming soon.
