Hurricane Ian took its toll on the Gulf side of Florida and now making its way through central Florida to the East Coast. It is now a tropical storm as it continues to weaken but still giving some severe wind and rain in areas along the Atlantic.
As for Brooks County, the area surrounding the county is dry hair and that has helped to steer Ian away from us. That continues to stay in our region and helps to keep temperatures rather cool but it also stops any of Ian’s rain to hit the area.
Wind gusts up to 25 have hit the region in several places and will continue to bombard the region. Currently wind is measured in Brooks County at 15 to 20 sustainable winds, depending on the area in Brooks.
Further updates and more information can be found at WCTV, WALB, the Weather Channel, AccuWeather, and the National Hurricane Center website.
However, with weather being unpredictable there may be a chance Ian slides further west and dry hair shifts. So, continue to monitor your area.
Brooks County Schools closed as a precautionary measure in case the winds picked up to tropical storm status or possible rain that could impact us should Ian shift for Thursday, September 29, 2022, and Friday, September 30, 2022.
