Peacock Festival Quilt Drawing Winning Quilt for 2023.

Pavo, GA—Every year in the month of May, on the second Saturday, the city of Pavo, Georgia with the help of the Pavo Community Club, hosts their annual Peacock Festival. On May the 13, 2023 the city of Pavo will come alive once again with vendors, special guests and a line of amazing attractive floats, buggies, cars, and more for their Peacock festival parade.

This year’s event will host over 90 vendors! There will be some of the best food trucks around, sweets and treats, all types of crafts, handmade and miscellaneous items, a Kid Zone with slides, bounce houses, dunk booth, games, face painting train ride and pet zoo! Vendors are still welcome to book a spot but know those spots are filling fast.

That is not going to be the end of the festival though there is more. The Peacock Day Invitational in its 3rd year will be going on too! Eight teams will be competing each other for the title! This softball tournament is one you don’t want to miss.

Those who enjoy lovely quilts will love the Pavo Quilt Raffle that is going on the same time. Tickets can be purchased for that drawing throughout the day. This year’s quilt is another beautifully hand sewn blue with a variety of more color intertwined and a large amazingly detailed peacock in the center.

The parade is also scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Everyone was welcome to join so this year’s parade should include entries from the locals and surrounding areas. Parading in the front will be this year’s Grand Marshall, Mr. Amari Pettis. Pavo is the hometown of Mr. Pettis. A graduate of TCCHS (Thomas County Central High School), in 2019. He played football in the position of linebacker # 29, and he wrestled. Mr. Pettis is currently a junior at Benedict and will be a senior in the fall. COLQUITT CO – The GBI is investigating a use-of-force incident death involving a Trooper and a 44-year-old Pavo man. On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Trooper was patrolling in Colquitt County, Georgia near State Road 33 and Lanier Road. While in the area, the trooper noticed Kennedy driving a blue 4-wheeler on SR33. The Trooper was aware of recent thefts and burglaries in the area involving a blue 4-wheeler. The Trooper followed Kennedy and attempted to pull him over using the emergency lights on his patrol car. Kennedy did not stop and drove away on the 4-wheeler. The Trooper chased him through several fields, a ditch, and back to the highway. While driving through another field during the chase, Kennedy turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper’s patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to overturn. Kennedy then ran away. The Trooper and a GSP K-9 chased Kennedy, and the K-9 caught up to and bit Kennedy to stop him. The Trooper handcuffed Kennedy and noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite. EMS and local deputies who responded to assist gave Kennedy medical treatment on the scene. Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon for treatment for his injuries. He later died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 27th in the early afternoon. Kennedy will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be provided to Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brad Shealy for review
