Pavo, Georgia--On December 4th, the quaint little town of Pavo, Georgia celebrated a Blue Christmas to help kick off the Christmas spirit. Pavo’s Community Center Auditorium was transformed into a Christmas “house” full of decorations, Christmas goodies, a live band, an Elf station for kids, and Santa’s comfy corner to receive those excited little children.
Beautiful handmade quilts lined the walls. Designed with various themes including Christmas. Pavo Quilters did wonders with their quilts and stood to wait for the visitors to enjoy the treats laid out on the table.
The event began with the Blue Holler band playing live on the stage and a quick sit down to hear a Christmas Story. Children gathered around the stocking table where stockings were laid out with coloring utensils for those who wanted to make their own stocking. Folks grabbed some freshly made coffee, hot chocolate and some delicious treats as they sat to listen to the music, go explore the premises, or make a s’more.
Outside, folks gathered, and children screamed with laughter as snow began to fall, s’mores were made by the fire, and cameras snapped as pictures of children by the decorations were taken. Visitors also made their donation of $1 to participate in the upcoming cake walks and to purchase cotton candy for the local Manna Drop and Pavo Library.
Children and adults all enjoyed the story, the stocking making, the fresh treats and freshly made drinks, the live music, and even the playground, but what all were most waiting on was down the road.
At 3 p.m. children gathered outside as they heard the roar of a fire truck and its sirens. Straining their necks to look down the road they saw Thomas County’s Fire Truck coming. Many were thrilled to see the fire truck, but gasps and squeals came as they saw who hitched a ride on the back. Santa!
Children all gathered swiftly to welcome Santa as he and Mrs. Claus stepped off the fire truck. Santa gathered many in his bear hug and listened to the gasps of those behind them. Santa waved, stood for a picture or two as he slowly made his way to his seat inside.
Once inside and sitting comfortably by his fire and Christmas Tree, Santa began to take children on his lap to hear their deepest wishes for Christmas. Parents and family gathered around to get those Santa pictures and a wave from Santa too.
As children enjoyed their visit with Santa or went back out to play in the snow, others gathered back around the table to finish their stocking. Adults made a comfortable spot to listen to the Blue Holler band, and more gathered for the cake walk.
With bellies full, smiles on their faces, a treat in a stocking, maybe a gift for that stocking, and full of Christmas spirit visitors slowly began to leave as it wound down.
Once again, Pavo has brought people from all around the county and beyond to help bring the Christmas spirit to them. Wishing all a very Merry Christmas in 2022!
