If you have not been through Quitman, Georgia lately, you may not have heard or seen the new businesses popping up in the town. Three new businesses have recently opened their doors to customers, and all have a little bit for everyone. 


The Green Chile is new place for everyone to dine. Located inside the Reel Coffee shop at 103 E. Screven Street in downtown Quitman. The Green Chile is currently serving just breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. They are going to serve lunch in the near future; however, their breakfast is on the menu now. A variety of burritos, bowls, cups, and breakfast plates sure to soothe any hunger. 


Another business that has recently opened its doors with delightfully sinful treats is Bri’s Bakery. Need that sweet tooth craving, well Bri’s Bakery has an abundance of cookies, cakes, cinnamon rolls and more. Located at 133 Screven Street in Quitman, GA and open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You find and order on her Facebook page so be sure to go like it and follow Bri_Cookiecreations. Lastly, Tractor Supply has opened their new store right beside Food Lion. This store of course offers an abundance of choices for everyone. From fencing equipment, pet food, to clothing and everything in between. You can stop by the Quitman, GA store at 1207 W. Screven St. Quitman, GA from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. You can also shop online and have deliveries made to this store. 



Quitman, GA is certainly brining in new business so be on the look out when you visit.

GBI investigates use-of-force incident death of a Pavo man

COLQUITT CO – The GBI is investigating a use-of-force incident death involving a Trooper and a 44-year-old Pavo man.  On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Trooper was patrolling in Colquitt County, Georgia near State Road 33 and Lanier Road. While in the area, the trooper noticed Kennedy driving a blue 4-wheeler on SR33. The Trooper was aware of recent thefts and burglaries in the area involving a blue 4-wheeler. The Trooper followed Kennedy and attempted to pull him over using the emergency lights on his patrol car. Kennedy did not stop and drove away on the 4-wheeler. The Trooper chased him through several fields, a ditch, and back to the highway. While driving through another field during the chase, Kennedy turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper’s patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to overturn. Kennedy then ran away. The Trooper and a GSP K-9 chased Kennedy, and the K-9 caught up to and bit Kennedy to stop him. The Trooper handcuffed Kennedy and noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite. EMS and local deputies who responded to assist gave Kennedy medical treatment on the scene. Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon for treatment for his injuries. He later died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 27th in the early afternoon. Kennedy will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be provided to Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brad Shealy for review

GBI Arrests Brooks County Man in Double Homicide Investigation

Quitman, GA (December 2, 2024) - The GBI has arrested and charged Wilbert Mobley, Jr., age 44, of Quitman, GA, with 2 counts of Malice Murder, 2 counts of Felony Murder, 3 counts of Aggravated Assault, and 3 counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime in connection to the deaths of Tamiko Mobley, age 48, of Quitman, GA, and Tiaja Mobley, age 25, of Quitman, GA. On Friday, November 29, 2024, at about 9:40 a.m., the GBI was requested by the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a double homicide that took place on Shiver Lane in Quitman, GA. Deputies initially responded and found two women, a mother and daughter later identified as Tamiko and Tiaja Mobley, had been shot inside the home. Tamiko Mobley did not live at the home but was staying with her daughter after an argument with her husband, Wilbert Mobley, Jr., the night before. Investigators found a man who had also been shot at and hit by debris during the incident. He sustained non-fatal injuries. Both victims will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office where autopsies will be performed. Quitman Police Department Officers who were assisting Brooks County deputies in responding to the 911 call arrested Wilbert Mobley, Jr. outside the home. Mobley was booked into the Brooks County Jail. This case is active and ongoing. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Thomasville at 229-225-4090.
