Mobley Named BCHS Teacher of the Year

Principal Chris Chastain recently announced that the Brooks County High School’s Teacher of the Year for 2022-2023 was Mrs. Ella Mobley. Selected by her peers, Mobley has been teaching for 35 years - all 35 years in Brooks County. Chastain stated, “Mrs. Mobley is a seasoned, veteran teacher who cares immensely for her students and their education. She is normally the first one in the building and one of the last ones to leave each and every day. Mrs. Mobley exemplifies the best of the Brooks County Trojan teachers. She has committed her professional career to serve the students of Brooks County with patience and the care needed to see her students flourish into adulthood. Her high expectations for her students guided by her loving and gentle spirit has provided the ultimate combination for success in her classroom.” Mobley currently teaches Functional Academics and LIfe Skills for grades 9-12. She loves the smile that comes across a student’s face after a skill has been mastered. 

“As a teen, I had to work in the fields of Brooks County every Spring Break and Summer. I vowed to graduate college, become a teacher and never work in a field again. Teaching is the greatest job in the world. My influencers were all my teachers at Brooks County High School when I was a student. I loved all of them and their classes. I even got a chance to work with a few of them my first years of teaching. I was amazed to be in the teacher's lounge with my former teachers.” shared Mobley. She finds that sometimes the options can be limited for her students with special needs after graduation. The limited number of options that are available for my kiddos upon graduation. “If I won the lottery, I would develop an adult center that trained and employed special needs adults with a shared dorm style living space so that they become independent, productive citizens,” said Mobley. Of course, after 35 years of teaching, Mobley has many fond memories but when asked about her favorite, she fondly remembers two off campus social skills events - Special Olympics and the Valentine’s Dance where her students got to practice social skills with others just like them. Thanks to a Warde Chambers Scholarship, the students were able to go out to a buffet dinner where they were able to practice even more social skills. 

Mrs. Mobley is married to Lamar Mobley. She is mom to daughters Angela (Dessie) Brown and Candace (Andy)Daniel and five sons Lamar Jr.(Tanishia), Timothy, Keith, Tavist, and Michael Mobley. She and Mr. Mobley are the proud grandparents to ten grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, completing Sudoku puzzles and spending time with her family. 

Mrs.Mobley will represent Brooks County High School for the 2022-2023 school year as Teacher of the Year and will compete at the district level for the title of Brooks County Schools Teacher of the Year. The BCS Teacher of the Year will be named at the Teacher of the Year banquet hosted in the fall.
