Brooks County, GA—Halloween for 2023 has now passed, but Brooks County and surrounding areas out did themselves for that holiday month! If you missed out on any of the Trunk or Treats, the trick or treating, or the haunted houses well you can hit them for 2024.

Pavo’s Haunted House located in Pavo, GA came together for some scary good times every Friday and Saturday night throughout October. Visitors from all over came to this haunted house for scares, laughter, and good times. Pavo Haunted House’s last day open was Saturday, October 28, 2023, but don’t worry, if you missed coming for the tour, you can come next year. There is bound to be another scary addition to make those hairs stand on your neck and arms.

Various trunk or treats happened throughout the area and often on different dates and times. Morven, Pavo, Pineview, Quitman, and some businesses participated in brining fun to the kids with bounce houses and festival type fun. Face painting, pumpkin painting, and trunk or treating was offered for kids who delighted in having this fun. Those who missed them, don’t worry many will be coming back for the Halloween month in 2024.

Pavo Trunk and Treat sponsored by Pavo Hardware & Feed brought many to its parking lot all decked out in various themes with candy to give the kids. Morven’s Lawson Peach Shed along with Morven and surrounding area churches participated in brining their Trunk or Treat to kids but this one offered some ice cream as a treat as well.

Pineview Community Church also held a Trunk or Treat offering bounce houses, face painting, pumpkin painting of free candy with decked out vehicles to fuss over. Badcock in Quitman with help from the BC Schools also held a Trunk or Treat for the kids. Each held their own delightful decorations of trunks and buggies, and each gave kids a fun time.

Brooks County Schools also participated with their students throughout the year. Homecoming week, students dressed up in various themed outfits and participated in contests and other fun. Further into the month students participated in various activities including trick or treating for younger students, and costume contests. They are not through with their festivities just yet, North Brooks Elementary is hosting their fall dance next week.

One of the people’s favorites it seems on Halloween is Creepin’ on Court which happens each year in Quitman on the famous and well-known North Court Street. Halloween night this year saw hundreds of kids, chaperoned with adults and older siblings walking the sidewalks for the traditional trick or treat. Not to be left out, homes decked out with their Halloween décor creating some of the best set ups for the kids.

Creepin’ on Court this year had various themes but several if not all caught many of the visitors attention. Jason roamed the street, Mario gave out candy, graveyards with witches and various ghouls could be seen as kids passed as well. There was a country singer performing songs live on their porch with dancers, and further down was ghostly graveyard.

All in fun, though spooky fun it may be, Brooks County, Georgia delighted many of its citizens, visitors, and kids with the various Halloween set ups. Needless to say, next year’s Halloween is planning on bringing more of the same.

COLQUITT CO – The GBI is investigating a use-of-force incident death involving a Trooper and a 44-year-old Pavo man. On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Trooper was patrolling in Colquitt County, Georgia near State Road 33 and Lanier Road. While in the area, the trooper noticed Kennedy driving a blue 4-wheeler on SR33. The Trooper was aware of recent thefts and burglaries in the area involving a blue 4-wheeler. The Trooper followed Kennedy and attempted to pull him over using the emergency lights on his patrol car. Kennedy did not stop and drove away on the 4-wheeler. The Trooper chased him through several fields, a ditch, and back to the highway. While driving through another field during the chase, Kennedy turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper’s patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to overturn. Kennedy then ran away. The Trooper and a GSP K-9 chased Kennedy, and the K-9 caught up to and bit Kennedy to stop him. The Trooper handcuffed Kennedy and noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite. EMS and local deputies who responded to assist gave Kennedy medical treatment on the scene. Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon for treatment for his injuries. He later died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 27th in the early afternoon. Kennedy will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be provided to Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brad Shealy for review
