The Brooks County Commissioners met on October 3, 2022, for the regular monthly meeting. The meeting was held at the Brooks County Courthouse beginning around 5 p.m.
During that meeting Chief Bartlett and the Brooks County Fire Department Inspector proposed a new Fire Ordinance for Brooks County. That ordinance lists key articles within including:
o Purpose
o General
o Fire Prevention Code
o Definitions,
o Electric wires, electric power meters; authority to cut electric wires and remove electric power meters.
o Fire hydrants
o Obstructing fire station, apparatus, hydrant, etc.
o Setting fires
o Fire lanes
o Fire protection requirements
o Fireworks
o Volunteer Firefighters
o Mutual aid agreements
o Special Police Powers for enforcement purposes
o Duties of Sheriff, peace officers
o Repealer
o Severability
o Adoption Date
o Effective Date
The Fire Ordinance is not officially in effect at this time. However, it is being asked that citizens of Brooks County review the Fire Ordinance and give their thoughts or comments on this to the County Administrator of Brooks County, Jessica McKinney. Commissioner Lee Larko of District 1 shared the Ordinance on his social media page “I urge all who are interested to read and give feedback to the County Administrator,” he said.
