Brooks County, GA—The Brooks County Trojan Baseball and Softball teams for the Brooks County High and Middle Schools are staying in shape and working hard at becoming the best teams they can before the 2023-24 season begins.

Summer games are now playing with BCHS Trojan Baseball, BCHS Girls Softball is on the field practicing with practice games coming in July, and BCMS Softball is on the field as well learning, getting in shape, and practicing before their upcoming season.

With a new year there are some new changes to add as well. New head coach for the baseball program and new fresh teammates. Transferring from the Brooks County Middle School softball field, Coach Jonathan Hamm will now coach Brooks County High Softball Trojanettes. Shawn Sharp stays at the Brooks County High School Coach, and Carl Parker is the new head coach for Brooks County Middle School.

Born in Atlanta, Ga, Jonathan Hamm began to find his love of Diamond at the age of 4yrs old when he first stepped foot on the baseball field. By the time of his High School years, Jonathan was a part of history at Southwest DeKalb High School setting records as a team. Continuing this path through college, he received a Full scholarship to Albany State University, where he was a part of (2) Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championships, and Albany State's first team selected to play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NCAA) II playoffs in 2006.

Hamm has been Head Coach of the Brooks County Middle School program for the past two years and now he is the Head Coach of the Brooks County High School Softball team. He is grateful for the opportunity to bring a new culture to the Trojan Nation of middle and high school programs to help girls strive to get into college as student athletes. He is motivated to share his knowledge and experiences to show students they too can strive for greatness and be great at what they choose in life.

Hamm's goal is to bring championships to the Softball and Baseball diamond and breed young champions in life. " Eye of the tiger"  Coach Hamm.

Brooks County High Trojan Softball Trojanettes are working hard, learning a lot from their new Coach, and have released their upcoming schedule and their roaster for this upcoming year. Be sure to come out and support your high school and middle school softball teams as well as the baseball.

By Georgia State Patrol Press Release September 4, 2024
COLQUITT CO – The GBI is investigating a use-of-force incident death involving a Trooper and a 44-year-old Pavo man. On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Trooper was patrolling in Colquitt County, Georgia near State Road 33 and Lanier Road. While in the area, the trooper noticed Kennedy driving a blue 4-wheeler on SR33. The Trooper was aware of recent thefts and burglaries in the area involving a blue 4-wheeler. The Trooper followed Kennedy and attempted to pull him over using the emergency lights on his patrol car. Kennedy did not stop and drove away on the 4-wheeler. The Trooper chased him through several fields, a ditch, and back to the highway. While driving through another field during the chase, Kennedy turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper’s patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to overturn. Kennedy then ran away. The Trooper and a GSP K-9 chased Kennedy, and the K-9 caught up to and bit Kennedy to stop him. The Trooper handcuffed Kennedy and noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite. EMS and local deputies who responded to assist gave Kennedy medical treatment on the scene. Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon for treatment for his injuries. He later died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 27th in the early afternoon. Kennedy will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be provided to Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brad Shealy for review
