All About the Kids Festival

All About the Kids Festival

Amanda Manning • August 27, 2023

Morven, GA--On Saturday, August 26, 2023, a small festival was held in the Emerson/Lawson Park in Morven, GA. The name of this first time ever festival was "All About the Kids" Festival.

Due to unexpected life events and excessive heat vendors were not able to come as expected. It didn't deter the event however. Children who came out participated in small activates such as sack races, egg/spoon races, basketball shots, dart shots, won prizes, and were able to get them nice cold treat.

Parents who came out and others who stopped by were able to speak with DFCS representatives on some options available that could help families, learn more about fostering children, and even how to get started on either.

Parents could also stop by Citizen Community Bank's vending tent to learn more about the bank's offered accounts, investments, loans and more. If you missed seeing them at the event they are located 30 Main St, Morven, GA 31638. The bank has two more locations as well; Hahira and Valdosta.

Fresh cooked season fries and chicken nugget plates were there for anyone hungry and Mandapanda Photography was there to take any pictures with cute backgrounds like Spider Man.

Tasties Treats and Fruit Cups were out to offer nice cold treats to help cool the body down during the heated day.

Mayor Anita Hill, Morven Event Committee, BC News and Stories, LLC all attended the event and enjoyed great conversation while watching the kids who came out have fun.

This event, though small compared to many, will be held once again in 2024. It is with great hope, next year's event will turn out larger, only growing each year to become one of the best Morven, GA has in the fall. Agreement between those hosting the event in the future, suggested and agreed that the event would be held later in the fall months rather than in the heated days of August.

Sponsors for this event were: The City of Morven, BC News & Stories, LLC, BC Community Heart & Soul, William's Tire & Wild Cards Collective Market.

If you would like to become a vendor, sponsor, or share this event we will begin taking vendor applications once again beginning February 2024, so be on the look out.

COLQUITT CO – The GBI is investigating a use-of-force incident death involving a Trooper and a 44-year-old Pavo man. On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at about 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Trooper was patrolling in Colquitt County, Georgia near State Road 33 and Lanier Road. While in the area, the trooper noticed Kennedy driving a blue 4-wheeler on SR33. The Trooper was aware of recent thefts and burglaries in the area involving a blue 4-wheeler. The Trooper followed Kennedy and attempted to pull him over using the emergency lights on his patrol car. Kennedy did not stop and drove away on the 4-wheeler. The Trooper chased him through several fields, a ditch, and back to the highway. While driving through another field during the chase, Kennedy turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper’s patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to overturn. Kennedy then ran away. The Trooper and a GSP K-9 chased Kennedy, and the K-9 caught up to and bit Kennedy to stop him. The Trooper handcuffed Kennedy and noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite. EMS and local deputies who responded to assist gave Kennedy medical treatment on the scene. Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon for treatment for his injuries. He later died at the hospital on Tuesday, August 27th in the early afternoon. Kennedy will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be provided to Southern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brad Shealy for review
